Product Overview — A titanium tube sheet is a precision-machined flat plate with a drilled or bored hole pattern that aligns with every tube in a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. The tubes fit through the holes and are rolled-in, welded or expanded against the sheet to seal the tube-to-sheet joint. Tube sheets may be stationary (one or both ends of the heat exchanger), floating, or u-tube style.

Tube Sheet vs Heat Exchanger Plate — the difference: Titanium tube sheets are flat, precision-drilled plates for shell-and-tube heat exchangers. They are not the same as titanium heat exchanger plates — those are pressed / corrugated sheet metal for plate-and-frame heat exchangers. The two product forms serve fundamentally different heat exchanger types and are not interchangeable.

Production route: Most titanium tube sheets start as titanium plate stock that is cut to disc or plate size and then CNC-drilled. For very large diameters, a forged titanium disc may be the better starting form. Grade, hole size, hole pitch, hole pattern (triangular vs square), number of holes and plate thickness are all specified on the drawing and reviewed together before quoting.

Grades & Materials

Grade selection is typically matched to the heat exchanger tube grade.

G

Grade Matching

Grade 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9 — typically matched to the heat exchanger tube grade. Grade feasibility per hole count / thickness combination is evaluated per inquiry.

SR

Starting Stock

Most tube sheets start as cut plate or disc blanks — see Titanium Discs & Circles. Very large diameters may use forged titanium disc stock.

Standards & Technical Requirements

Titanium tube sheets are manufactured from starting plate or disc stock that falls within the ASTM B265 / B265M scope for flat rolled titanium. Additional heat exchanger-specific codes or specifications (ASME BPVC Section VIII, TEMA, customer standards) may apply to the tube sheet itself — these are agreed per order and are usually driven by the heat exchanger's pressure / temperature class and code jurisdiction.

Mill test certificates for the starting stock together with machining inspection reports (hole position, hole diameter, flatness) and, where specified, hole bore inspection, are supplied per order.

Dimensions & Supply

Standard / Industry Reference Range

Diameter bounded by plate or forged disc capacity
Industry tube sheet sizes range from small laboratory exchanger diameters up to large process exchanger diameters. This is not Feinuotai's stock range.

Custom Supply Range

All tube sheets are produced to customer drawing
Feinuotai can produce tube sheets outside regular plate capacity using forged disc stock. Please send your drawing or specify OD × thickness × hole pattern in the inquiry.

Regular Stock Range

None — tube sheets are made to order
Tube sheets are not standard stock items. Every tube sheet is produced to a unique drawing.

Inquiry checklist:

  • Outer diameter (OD) and thickness of the tube sheet
  • Hole pattern (triangular / square / custom)
  • Hole size (matching the tube OD + clearance)
  • Hole pitch (center-to-center distance between holes)
  • Number of holes
  • Required grade
  • Any required inspection or code requirements

A drawing is strongly preferred — hole pattern details are difficult to specify accurately in text.

Applications

S

Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers

Primary application — stationary and floating-head tube sheets for titanium shell-and-tube heat exchangers.

C

Condensers

Titanium tube sheets for condensers in desalination and power plants.

P

Process Heat Exchange

Tube sheets in chemical process heat exchangers where corrosion resistance matters.

Quality Documentation & Inspection

Mill test certificates for the starting stock, machining inspection reports (hole position, hole diameter, flatness verification) and any additional hole bore or weld inspection documentation are supplied per order. Please note your inspection requirements together with the drawing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade should the tube sheet be?

The tube sheet grade is typically matched to the heat exchanger tube grade. Grade 2 is the most common grade for standard-duty titanium heat exchangers; Grade 5 is used where higher strength or elevated temperature performance is needed. Feinuotai discusses the grade together with the pressure / temperature class of the exchanger at inquiry time.

Is a tube sheet the same as a heat exchanger plate?

No. Tube sheets are flat, precision-drilled plates for shell-and-tube heat exchangers. Heat exchanger plates are pressed / corrugated sheet metal for plate-and-frame heat exchangers. These are different product forms for different heat exchanger types — see Titanium Heat Exchanger Plates.

How are large-diameter tube sheets produced?

Tube sheet diameter is bounded by the width of the source plate. For very large diameters beyond standard plate width, a forged titanium disc may be used as the starting stock — this is evaluated per inquiry together with the hole count and thickness.

What do I need to send for an inquiry?

A drawing is strongly preferred. Please include OD, thickness, hole size, hole pitch, hole pattern (triangular / square / custom), number of holes, grade and any inspection or code requirements.

Request a Quotation for Titanium Tube Sheets

Send your tubesheet drawing — we will confirm the production route (plate blank vs forged disc), grade feasibility and provide a tailored quotation together with an inspection and documentation proposal.
