← Back to Plates & Sheets Family

Product Overview — Titanium plate and sheet are the most widely used titanium semi-finished flat products, supplied as mill-rolled stock from hot or cold rolling processes. The practical dividing thickness between "plate" and "sheet" is not a fixed figure and is agreed against the order — a common industry distinction treats sheet as thinner material and plate as heavier gauges. Both are starting stock for pressure vessels, heat exchanger shells and partitions, storage tanks, desalination components, chemical process equipment, and structural panels where corrosion resistance, strength-to-weight ratio and fabricability matter.

Feinuotai supplies plate and sheet in commercially pure titanium grades and common titanium alloy grades. Thickness, width, length, surface condition and supply form are reviewed per inquiry before a quotation is issued, so that available mill stock, production capacity and downstream fabrication method can all be considered together.

Long-form note for procurement: In chemical, petrochemical and desalination projects where equipment is fabricated from titanium, plate and sheet selections are usually made at the design stage based on the process environment (acids, chlorides, elevated temperature), the required wall thickness, the forming and welding operations downstream, and the final inspection regime. A wide plate product that sits at the intersection of material selection and fabrication planning, it is often ordered together with matching forgings, bars and connection components so that the supply programme can be co-ordinated.

Grades & Materials

Supported grades are not automatically stocked grades. Availability is confirmed per inquiry.

Titanium plate and sheet are supplied across a wide grade range covering commercially pure titanium and common titanium alloys. Grade selection is driven by the service environment (corrosive media, operating temperature), the required mechanical properties (tensile strength, ductility, weldability), and any applicable code or specification that the finished equipment must meet.

SP

Supported Grades

Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 (commercially pure titanium), Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), Grade 7 (Ti-0.2Pd), Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V), Grade 11 (Ti-0.15O-Pd), Grade 12 (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni), Grade 16 (Ti-0.05Pd), Grade 17 (Ti-0.05O-Pd), Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI).

ST

Regular Stock Grades

Grade 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI). Grade 3, 11, 16 and 17 are not part of the standing stock list and are supplied on inquiry, subject to material availability.

Stock availability of a given grade does not mean every thickness, width or length in that grade is held in stock — each inquiry is reviewed against the current mill programme and available coil or plate inventory. Grade availability for plate and sheet is separate from foil, strip, disc or bar product forms.

Standards & Technical Requirements

ASTM B265 / B265M is the primary product standard for titanium and titanium alloy strip, sheet and plate with nominal thickness from 0.2 mm up to 200 mm. It is the reference standard used when quoting rolled titanium plate and sheet.

Important scope note — ASTM B265 governs flat rolled titanium plate and sheet products only. It does not apply to titanium round bars, square bars, flat bars, hollow bars, forgings, tubes, wires or fasteners. For flat rolled products lighter than 0.2 mm (titanium foil), see Titanium Foil — that thickness range falls outside the B265 scope.

Additional or alternative specifications may be agreed per order — for example, project-specific inspection criteria, additional non-destructive testing, heat-treatment conditions or documentation packages. Where a project references an engineering code such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AWS D1.1 or customer-specific standard, please include that requirement in your inquiry so that we can assess whether the plate or sheet can be supplied to the required regime.

Dimensions & Specifications

Three range levels are shown — industry reference, custom supply and regular stock. Industry reference is not our entire stock.

Titanium plate and sheet dimensions vary by thickness, width and length. The three layers below distinguish between the range used in industry references (e.g. ASTM B265), what Feinuotai can supply per agreed order, and the size ranges we commonly hold in stock. Do not treat the industry reference range as our stock list.

Standard / Industry Reference Range

Thickness 0.2 – 200 mm · Width up to 2000 mm+ · Length random or cut
Corresponds to the dimension scope referenced in ASTM B265. Covers the full flat-product capability of titanium mills worldwide. This is not Feinuotai's stock range.

Custom Supply Range

Thickness and size evaluated per order · mill programme dependent
Covers sizes that are not part of regular stock but can be produced or sourced through the mill network. Please state grade, thickness, width, length, quantity and tolerance in your inquiry so we can confirm feasibility.

Regular Stock Range

To be confirmed against current inventory — inquire with grade and thickness
Regular stock changes with mill production cycles and order off-take. Feinuotai confirms current stock thicknesses, widths and lengths for your specific grade when an inquiry is received.

Surface condition (mill finish, descaled, pickled, ground) and tolerances (thickness, flatness, length) are confirmed as part of each order. For tight-tolerance applications or where downstream forming or welding imposes special surface requirements, please note these in your inquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between supported grades and stock grades?

Supported grades are the grades we can quote for plate and sheet — the full list is shown under "Grades & Materials". Stock grades are the grades we hold under regular stock programmes. A supported grade is not automatically a stocked grade. Grade 3, 11, 16 and 17 are supplied on inquiry only; the eight stock grades are Grade 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12 and Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI).

Can ASTM B265 be specified for plate and sheet?

Yes — ASTM B265 / B265M is the primary standard for titanium and titanium alloy strip, sheet and plate in thicknesses from 0.2 mm through 200 mm. It is not applicable to titanium bars, forgings, tubes, wires or fasteners. If your project references an additional code (ASME, AWS, customer specification), please mention it in your inquiry.

What is the difference between plate, sheet and foil?

In practical terms, plate, sheet and foil are all rolled flat titanium products that differ primarily in thickness. Plate is heavier gauge, sheet is thinner, and foil is ultra-thin — but the dividing thickness is not fixed and is agreed against the order. The important standard difference is that ASTM B265 covers 0.2 mm – 200 mm, so ultra-thin foil below 0.2 mm is outside B265's scope. See Titanium Foil for foil-specific supply details.

Can you supply cut-to-size plate or sheet?

Yes. Cut-to-size supply, saw cutting and machined edge preparation are arranged per order against your drawing or cutting list. The cutting method, end preparation and tolerance are reviewed together with material grade and thickness before quoting.

How do I know which grade to choose?

Grade selection depends on three main factors: the service environment (which corrosive media, at what temperature), the required mechanical properties (strength vs. ductility), and whether a project code or existing specification already prescribes a grade. Feinuotai can help with a grade discussion when you share the service environment and application details.
