Grade 2 commercially pure titanium plate — the workhorse titanium grade for pressure vessels, heat exchanger shells and general structural fabrication — with balanced strength, formability and corrosion resistance.
Product Overview — Grade 2 is the most widely used commercially pure titanium grade worldwide (UNS R50400). It sits at the centre of the CP titanium range — stronger and stiffer than Grade 1, more ductile and formable than Grade 3 and 4. Grade 2 offers an excellent combination of corrosion resistance, weldability and moderate tensile strength at moderate cost, making it the default choice for general industrial, chemical and marine service.
Grade 2 titanium plate is specified for pressure vessels and tanks, heat exchanger shells and partitions, columns, reactors, linings, desalination components and general structural fabrication. It is a stocked grade — available thicknesses, widths and lengths are confirmed per inquiry.
Long-form note for procurement: Grade 2 is the grade engineers first reach for when "titanium plate" is specified without further qualification. It meets the corrosion-resistance requirements of most industrial environments (acids, chlorides, saltwater) while being readily formable, weldable and available across a wide thickness range. Unless the project has an unusually aggressive service environment (where Grade 7 or 12 may be needed) or an elevated strength requirement (where Grade 5 alloy is appropriate), Grade 2 is the normal default.
Commercially pure titanium, UNS R50400. Balanced strength, formability and corrosion resistance. The industry workhorse CP grade.
Grade 2 is a core stocked flat titanium grade. Available plate thicknesses, widths and lengths are confirmed at inquiry time.
Grade 2 titanium plate is supplied against ASTM B265 / B265M — the standard for titanium and titanium alloy strip, sheet and plate in thicknesses from 0.2 mm through 200 mm. Grade 2 is one of the grades covered by ASTM B265's chemical and mechanical property requirements. Additional project codes or client specifications (ASME, AWS, company standards) may be agreed per order.
Tank shells, heads and vessel bodies across chemical process and general industrial equipment.
Shells, partitions and structural heat exchanger components — the most common titanium grade for this use.
Columns, reactors and process equipment linings where corrosion resistance and weldability both matter.
Evaporators and condenser components in RO and MED desalination plants.
Panels, frames and support structures where a balance of strength and formability is needed.
Grade 2 offers the best all-round combination of properties among CP titanium grades: corrosion resistance matching Grade 1, excellent weldability, good formability and sufficient strength for most industrial and process equipment applications — all at a price point that competes favourably with alternative titanium grades.
Grade 2 is a commercially pure titanium grade; Grade 5 is a titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) with roughly double the tensile strength of Grade 2. Choose Grade 2 for vessels, tanks and structural fabrication where strength requirements are moderate and cost matters. Choose Grade 5 where higher strength-to-weight ratio or elevated-temperature performance is required.
