Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) titanium alloy plate — high strength-to-weight ratio titanium alloy for aerospace structures, heavy-duty industrial components and elevated-temperature applications.
Product Overview — Grade 5 titanium — Ti-6Al-4V (UNS R56400) — is the most widely used titanium alloy globally. An alpha-beta alloy, it delivers approximately double the tensile strength of Grade 2 commercially pure titanium while retaining excellent corrosion resistance and a strength-to-weight ratio that outperforms most competing metals at equivalent weight. Grade 5 alloy plate is specified where weight reduction and strength matter together — aerospace structures, high-load industrial equipment, medical apparatus and components that operate at elevated temperatures beyond CP titanium's practical limit.
Grade 5 is a stocked grade. Plate supply is reviewed per inquiry against thickness, width, length, quantity and any heat-treatment or specification requirement.
Long-form note for procurement: Grade 5 is the first alloy grade an engineer reaches for when CP titanium strength is insufficient for the design. It is not a drop-in replacement for Grade 2 or 1 in every application — it is stiffer, has lower ductility and formability, and the weld process is more demanding. The trade-off is worth it where every kg counts: airframes, heavy-duty frames and supports, portable equipment and components where a lower wall thickness or smaller section modulus delivers meaningful weight savings.
Titanium Grade 5 (UNS R56400, Ti-6Al-4V). Alpha-beta titanium alloy with roughly double the tensile strength of Grade 2 CP titanium.
Grade 5 is a regular stocked flat titanium grade. Available plate thicknesses, widths and lengths are confirmed at inquiry time.
Grade 5 titanium alloy plate is supplied against ASTM B265 / B265M, which includes Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) in its material scope. Where heat-treatment is required (e.g. mill-annealed, solution-treated and aged), the condition is agreed per order and the documentation package includes heat-treatment records.
Additional or alternative specifications may apply where the project references an engineering code, aerospace standard or customer-specific requirement. Please state all standards, codes and heat-treatment conditions in your inquiry.
Primary and secondary structural components where high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance both matter.
Heavy-duty frames, supports and components requiring titanium alloy strength.
High-strength components for medical apparatus and diagnostic equipment.
Applications operating at temperatures where CP titanium approaches its practical limit.
Grade 5 is Ti-6Al-4V — an alpha-beta titanium alloy with roughly double the tensile strength of commercially pure grades while retaining excellent corrosion resistance. It is the most widely used titanium alloy in the world.
Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium with excellent formability and weldability, but limited strength. Grade 5 is an alloy with roughly double the strength but lower ductility and more demanding welding. Choose Grade 2 for vessels, tanks and structures where strength requirements are moderate; choose Grade 5 where weight reduction and higher strength are priorities.
Yes — Grade 5 is a core stocked flat titanium grade. Available plate thicknesses, widths and lengths are confirmed at inquiry time.
Grade 5 is typically supplied mill-annealed for most structural applications. Solution-treated and aged conditions may be arranged per order — please state your heat-treatment requirement in the inquiry so we can confirm feasibility and mill availability.
Tell us plate thickness, width, length, quantity, heat-treatment condition and any standard or code requirements — we will confirm supply availability and provide a tailored quotation.
