Titanium coiled tube is produced by taking straight seamless or welded titanium tube (the base tube) and cold-bending or hot-bending it into a spiral or helical coil geometry. The forming process does not alter the material specification of the base tube -- it changes the product configuration. Coiled titanium tubes are used where a compact heat exchanger geometry or a coiled-tube configuration is required, reducing equipment footprint compared to straight-tube exchanger designs.

Supply is coordinated per inquiry against the base tube OD, wall thickness, grade, coil diameter, coil pitch, number of turns and total finished length. Feasibility depends on the base tube grade, wall thickness-to-OD ratio and required coil geometry.

Grades & Materials

Coiled tube grade is determined by the base tube grade used as starting material.

RS

Regular Stock

Grade 1 (CP Ti), Grade 2 (CP Ti), partial Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V). Base tube is available from stock; coil bending performed to order.

CU

Custom Coordination

Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 7, Grade 9, Grade 12 and other grades. Base tube production and coil bending both coordinated per order.

Standards & Technical References

Coiled titanium tubes are secondarily formed from straight seamless or welded tubes. The relevant standards therefore start with the base tube standard, and bending is evaluated against the project specification and forming requirements.

For the base straight round tube, ASTM B338 / B337 apply as industry references for the underlying seamless or welded round tube. The coiled geometry itself is not directly covered by these standards and should be evaluated against the project specification, minimum bend radius requirements, flattening limits and inspection criteria agreed for the order.

Typical Application Areas

HX

Compact Heat Exchangers

Coil-form titanium tubing for heat exchangers where the spiral geometry enables more heat-transfer area within a given footprint.

CH

Chillers & Condensers

Titanium coil bundles for process chillers, refrigeration condensers and specialty cooling systems.

SP

Specialty Process Equipment

Custom coil configurations for research reactors, sample coolers, liquid-vapor separators and specialty process loops.

Quality & Documentation

  • Material test certificates for the base titanium tube.
  • Bending and forming inspection: minimum bend radius verification, wall thinning check at the bend, flattening check, dimensional verification of coil diameter and pitch.
  • Pressure testing documentation for the finished coiled tube per specification.
  • Dimensional inspection reports for the coil geometry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between coiled titanium tube and coiled titanium wire?

Coiled titanium tube refers to tubular product that has been bent into a spiral coil shape for heat exchanger or process equipment use. Coiled titanium wire refers to solid titanium wire (not hollow tube) supplied wound into loose coils for downstream rewinding, welding or weaving. These are two different product categories.

Can any titanium tube be bent into a coil?

Bending feasibility depends on the base tube grade, wall thickness-to-OD ratio and required coil diameter and pitch. Thin-walled tubes and tight coil diameters present higher forming risk including wrinkling, ovality and wall thinning. Minimum bend radius and feasibility should be confirmed per inquiry before quotation.

Are coiled titanium tubes stocked?

Straight base tubes may be available from stock (Grade 1, Grade 2, partial Grade 5 in common seamless or welded sizes). Coil bending itself is performed to order. The finished coiled configuration is not maintained as regular stock.

Do coiled titanium tubes have the same wall thickness as the base tube?

The nominal wall thickness of the base tube is specified by the manufacturer. During bending, some localized wall thinning can occur at the outer bend and some thickening at the inner bend. The final wall thickness at critical bend locations should be confirmed against the project specification and inspected after forming.
