Straight titanium wire is coiled titanium wire that has been cold-straightened through straightening rolls and then cut to fixed customer-specified lengths. The straightening process removes coil curvature without altering the wire diameter or material properties. The resulting cut-length wire is the preferred supply format for GTAW/MIG welding filler rods, pin stock, short-length component feedstock and discrete-length manufacturing input where each piece must be straight and dimensionally consistent.

Supply is reviewed per inquiry against wire diameter, diameter tolerance class, grade, surface condition, required cut length, end preparation (plain cut or chamfered) and total quantity. Common welding filler rod sizes may be available from stock; all other diameters, lengths and grades are coordinated to order.

Grades & Materials

RS

Regular Stock

Grade 1 (CP Ti) and Grade 2 (CP Ti) available from stock in common welding filler diameters and lengths. Partial Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) stock may be available -- confirmed per order against wire diameter.

CU

Custom Coordination

Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 (non-stock diameters), Grade 7 (Ti-0.15Pd), Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V), Grade 12, Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) and other titanium or titanium alloy grades. Straightening and cutting can be coordinated for all grades where the wire can be drawn to the required diameter. To Be Confirmed Against Product Requirements for non-standard diameters and specialty grades.

Standards & Technical References

ASTM B863 / B863M — Standard Specification for Titanium and Titanium Alloy Wire. The drawn wire specification covers diameter ranges, tolerance classes, tensile properties, chemical composition and packaging. Straight and cut-length titanium wire is produced from wire that meets this underlying drawn wire specification. Additional straightness and length cut tolerance requirements are agreed for each order.

For the welding filler rod application specifically, AWS (American Welding Society) A5.16 provides filler metal specification for titanium and titanium alloy welding consumables. The specific applicability should be confirmed against the grade and wire form.

Typical Application Areas

WF

Welding Filler Rods

The primary application -- straight titanium wire cut to length for GTAW and MIG welding filler rods in common 1 m, 1.5 m or customer-specified lengths.

PS

Pin & Dowel Stock

Cut-length titanium wire as feedstock for precision pins, dowels, spring pins and small axial components.

MC

Machining Feedstock

Discrete-length titanium wire for small CNC machining operations where short bar feed is more convenient than coil form.

ME

Medical & Laboratory

Straight titanium wire for surgical pin stock, guide pins and biocompatible component feedstock.

Quality & Documentation

  • Mill test certificates covering chemical composition and tensile properties of the drawn wire feedstock.
  • Diameter verification reports covering the specified tolerance class.
  • Length cut verification and straightness check reports where applicable.
  • Surface condition verification, particularly for bright annealed welding grades.
  • Heat or lot traceability records where available and applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which straight titanium wire grades and sizes are available from stock?

Grade 1 and Grade 2 titanium wire cut to common welding filler rod lengths (typically 1 m and 1.5 m) in common welding filler diameters (0.8 – 3.2 mm) are available from stock. Partial Grade 5 cut-length stock may be available -- confirmed per order against wire diameter. Other diameters, lengths and specialty grades including Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 (non-stock diameters), Grade 7, Grade 9, Grade 12 and Grade 23 are produced to order.

What length tolerances can be held for cut lengths?

Cut length tolerances are agreed against the wire diameter, straightening process and customer requirement. For standard applications, common length tolerances are ±1 mm or ±2 mm. Tighter tolerances can be negotiated for precision applications. Please specify the required tolerance in the inquiry.

What surface condition is used for welding filler rods?

Bright annealed is the standard surface condition for titanium welding filler rods, providing a clean, oxide-free surface that supports consistent arc behavior in GTAW and MIG welding. As-drawn or annealed surface may be used for non-welding applications.

Can straight titanium wire be chamfered on the ends?

Yes. End preparation (plain cut or chamfered ends) can be specified per order. Chamfered ends are sometimes specified for welding filler rods or pin stock to facilitate feeding or insertion.
